2010 COUNTRY ENERGY MULGA BILL FESTIVAL With the experience of 4 very successful Mulga Bill Festivals behind us we are looking towards the 5th in 2010 being another very enjoyable Festival experience, with lots to do and see for people of all ages and a wide diversion of interests. The new Sculptures in the Banjo Paterson Bush Park will be well worth seeing as will the improvements to the Poets Walk along the Buckinbah Creek. This delightful walk takes you the ¾ km to the Ruins of the original Paterson Homestead. It is here at the very isolated Buckinbah Station in his childhood years that Banjo met so many of the characters and heard so many of the stories he wrote about in later life. The large sandstone Picnic Seat at the ruins which was dedicated to the memory of Banjo by the great Australian Actor Jack Thompson is a great place to sit and meditate on times gone by. The Yeoval Showground will be the venue for the whole of the daylight Festival and the Monster Fireworks on the Friday evening will again be at the Sports Ground behind the Bowling Club. The Royal Hotel is the venue for the very popular Mulga Bill Quickshear Competition where we see shearer against shearer and both against the clock. The Buckinbah Art Show will once again be in the very intimate hanging space of the Yeoval Golf Club with the opening on the Friday Afternoon. It is at this stage intended that the Topic for this year will be The Billy Can in any Medium with separate sections for Sculpture and one dimension art. There will be a Photo Exhibition - also on the showground. The prizes and details for both are still being arranged so watch this space!!! Billy Tea and Camp oven cooking by the Yeoval Fishing Club will make for good warm economic meals. This along with all the other favorites that we have had over the years along with one or two new attractions all make for a wonderful weekend. A Mulga Bill Festival is not complete without the very popular Mulga Bill Bike Ride. Following the success last year of splitting the ride into two sections, the same will apply this year. Both will take place on the Sunday morning starting from the Banjo Paterson Bush Park. Two Sections - The first for the more accomplished rider and the distance to be 42klm a “Training Ride With Effort” Yeoval to Baldry and return - all on new Asphalt Road. The other with the cooperation of the Wellington Council is to be for mums, dads, children and those out for a leisure ride. All on Closed Asphalt roads with no traffic to interrupt the ride, the riders will pass through all the imaginary towns in the poem – Conroy’s Gap Eaglehawk , and Deadman’s Creek etc. All towns will have waterstops and participants can turn around anywhere and return to the park. The final Town of Deadman’s Creek is a return distance of 32km. Each of the towns are 3km apart. The Lucky Rider draw for the Bike, donated By Darryl Grant Cycles of Orange, will be drawn on the main stage at 2pm. Don’t forget you have to be there to collect the new Bike. If you would like to stay over for the weekend we would love to have you - Caravans at the Showground where there is power and toilets - Camping with tents at the sports ground. The area has good lawn areas and toilets and Hot Showers which are available for Caravanners too - they are 7 minutes walk from the Showground. The Royal Hotel in Yeoval 68464003 and the Royal Hotel Cumnock 63677208 still have rooms available. The next closest town is Wellington 40km away. There you will find accommodation to suit all budgets - ring the Wellington Visitor Information Centre on 1800 621614. Wellington has some wonderful attractions so why not arrive a day or two early and spend time at the famous Wellington Caves, The Phosphate Mine and some of the other attractions so close to the town. Visitor information can help you out with a brochure or visit their website www.visitwellington.com.au If you are visiting from the south through Cabonne Country take the time to visit the many attractions here too perhaps stop lunch at one of the many cafes en route - visit www.cabonne.nsw.gov.au
